New Democrats commemorate the anniversary of the largest mass shooting in Canadian history

NDP critic for public safety, Jack Harris, made the following statement:

“Today marks the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting in and around Portapique, Nova Scotia, where 22 people were killed and three others were injured in what was the largest mass murder in Canadian history.

Canadians cannot forget the shock and horror of this tragic act of senseless gun violence. Our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones and the communities who continue to bare the weight of this loss and trauma.

We are hopeful that the many questions that remain unanswered about this horrific event can be addressed by the Public Inquiry that has been appointed.

As COVID-19 remains a serious concern across our country, it is difficult to gather in memory of those who were lost. Yet, from across the country, New Democrats stand with Nova Scotians and all those who continue to grieve. We recommit ourselves to doing all we can to make help ensure that a tragedy like this never happens again.”
